Migrate Stream Targets from Akamai to Fastly - steps required

This article is to inform all Wowza Streaming Engine customers using Wowza CDN which was integrated with Akamai of an upcoming change that will require your action. Any streams using this type of stream target for stream delivery will need to be manually switched to the Fastly CDN to maintain uptime. Keep reading for more information and instructions to resolve.

Wowza Streaming Engine > Wowza CDN

We have communicated this change to customers via email for the past 3 weeks, but wanted to post in here in case the email was not seen for some reason by those who need to take action.

What’s happening:

Support for Wowza CDN on Akamai is being removed from Wowza Streaming Cloud. As of April 18th, Wowza’s native CDN integration with Akamai will no longer function, meaning that streams targeting Wowza CDN which used Akama by defaulti will not work. We anticipate adding additional natively supported CDN solutions in the future, but until then, any streams targeting Wowza CDN on Akamai will need to be delivered using Fastly.

What you need to do:

You must convert any streams targeting Wowza CDN on Akamai to Fastly by April 18th to ensure your streams continue to function. Please see our step-by-step instructions for migrating: https://www.wowza.com/docs/migrate-to-wowza-cdn-on-fastly

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any questions or need support, please reach out to our customer support team and we will help keep your video tech humming.

Again, we hold Akamai in the highest regard. They have eliminated a service API we depended on, so we’re having to route traffic to our other strategic partner, Fastly. We do believe in offering our customers multiple CDN options, so will be exploring migration to Akamai’s new platform, as well as other CDN options.
