Encountering an Unusual Streaming Issue to Facebook - Seeking Advice

Hello everyone,

Our team has been facing a peculiar problem recently. We provide video streaming services for various local organizations, including a number of churches. Each of these organizations has its own dedicated application for their use.

One of the services we offer includes streaming their live videos to their respective Facebook pages, YouTube, and other platforms. However, we’ve started to notice an odd anomaly with the Facebook streams.

Despite using an API to kick-start the streams in sync with their services, only the last 10-20 minutes of the broadcast are being captured on Facebook. The curious part is that the health analytics don’t indicate any problems, and the streams seem to be functioning perfectly when it comes to the video player and YouTube.

I was wondering if anyone else in this forum has experienced a similar issue while streaming to Facebook? If so, your insights would be invaluable to us. We’re not quite sure where to begin troubleshooting this problem, especially considering that the transcoders aren’t restarted during the broadcast.

Any advice, guidance, or similar experiences shared would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards.

We’ve previously raised an issue concerning our streaming services with Wowza Cloud and its integration with Facebook Live. The only workaround suggested was to set up Facebook Live streams manually, akin to how YouTube streaming is set up. However, this isn’t a feasible solution for our clients, many of whom are not tech-savvy or lack the manpower to handle such a setup. Our preference is to utilize the transcoder method.

Initially, this problem was impacting just one of our church clients, specifically on Sundays. Their daily mass streams would work fine, but the Sunday service would consistently only stream the last 10 minutes or so on Facebook. Regrettably, this past Sunday, the issue has started affecting two other clients as well. Their streams on Facebook Live began only in the last 20-30 minutes of their service.

The stream health analytics for these clients don’t seem to differ from others that successfully stream the entirety of their services to Facebook. This suggests that the issue might not be related to the stream health per se.

I am willing to raise another ticket, but I believe we need to delve deeper into this problem to identify the root cause. If we are unable to rectify this situation soon, there is a real risk of losing these clients to another provider. I hope we can collectively brainstorm and arrive at a solution that works for everyone.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Best regards.
